Mangrove BBQ

IMPORTED

As a charcoal, it is preferred because it burns hotter than most other woods and burns a longer time and emits far less smoke. It is used in kilns for burning clay, and for barbecuing perfect steaks.

Mangrove is a clean burning charcoal that is why restaurants often select it since it is odourless and does not interfere with the aroma of their cuisine.

Mangrove Chunky

IMPORTED

Mangrove Charcoal is an ideal all round charcoal with tasty smokey flavour. Not as hot as the Gidgee but this just means it is easier to control and the ash output is far less, which means more ash stays in the bottom of your BBQ and not on your food. Mangrove is a favoured type of charcoal for asian restaurants in particular Korean BBQ and some charcoal chicken shops.

Usually supplied in quite regular large lumps, Mangrove charcoal lights fast and has very little spark ups during start up and little smoke.

How big are the lump sizes in a bag?

Charcoal is produced or should I say “screened” (or sifted) into four main sizes. 1) 10 to 50mm, 2) 50 to 80mm, 3) 80 – 130mm and, 4) 130mm and over

The tricky part is that charcoal is very fragile and can easily crush and break into smaller pieces after multiple trips on and off trucks and pallets, into and out of warehouses and finally while being delivered to the end user. In short, the lump sizes you will inevitably end up with will always be slightly smaller than the initial screened size. Of course with larger lump sizes say 100mm and above, this problem is less apparent as they cannot move around in the bag as much during transport.

Briquettes

Briquet charcoal should have airflow and venting to burn properly. It is usually ready for cooking within 30 minutes and will stay hot up to an hour. Results may vary given grilling conditions and equipment.

Unlike the pure lump charcoal, briquettes are manufactured wood by-products compressed with additives that help them light and burn consistently. They provide a more stable burn, maintaining a steady temperature for a longer period of time with less hand holding then lump charcoal.
